The Conference Ends Friday. The Trip Doesn’t Have To.
Sessions wrap up Friday, January 29. But you’re already in Reno, and January is peak winter in the Sierra Nevada. The relationships that matter most rarely happen in a session room. They happen on a chairlift, at a show, over dinner with people who understand exactly what your Monday looks like. The conference gives you the room. The weekend gives you the time.
On the Mountain
Mt. Rose is the closest resort to Reno, 25 minutes and 25 miles away. It has the highest base elevation in the Tahoe area at over 8,000 feet, which means better snow and smaller crowds than the bigger-name resorts. Over 1,200 acres, 1,800 vertical feet, terrain for every level.
Palisades Tahoe is about 45 minutes from Reno. If you don’t ski, the Aerial Tram is worth the trip on its own: a 10-minute scenic ride from the Village up to High Camp at 8,200 feet, with dining and panoramic views of Lake Tahoe.
Heavenly is roughly an hour away and straddles the California-Nevada border, so you can ski two states in one run. Its scenic gondola is a non-ski option too, currently $89 for adults and $59 for teens and seniors.
Northstar is about 45 minutes from Reno, with a relaxed village atmosphere and terrain suited to every level.
No Ski Pass Needed
Reno itself has plenty to offer without leaving downtown. Basecamp Climbing Gym at the Whitney Peak Hotel is home to the world’s tallest indoor climbing wall at 164 feet, plus a 7,000+ square foot bouldering area. It’s walkable from the hotel block, open Monday through Friday 8am to 10pm and weekends 8am to 9pm.
For live entertainment, the Reno Events Center and the Grand Theatre at Grand Sierra Resort both host concerts and shows through the winter. Reno Ice and Grand Sierra Resort both run public ice skating through January. The Riverwalk district is a good spot for a lower-key evening with the group.
Extending to Lake Tahoe
If you want the full Tahoe experience, the South Tahoe Airporter runs multiple times a day between Reno-Tahoe International Airport and South Lake Tahoe, with a one-way fare around $33. It’s a separate service from the free shuttle to our conference hotel block, worth booking if you’re staying on for the weekend and heading south to the lake.
Plan the Extra Days
Fly in Wednesday, attend the conference Thursday and Friday, and use the weekend for the mountain, the lake, or just more time with the people you met this week. Our hotel block rate holds for extra nights, so staying longer doesn’t mean paying more per night to do it.
